Well, I have installed TFS but problems are not finished yet. I have tried to create a Team Project but got this error message at the end of the process:

And the log file is stating that the "Microsoft.Pcw.wss" plugin is not initialized. Is this another timeout issue?

Aha, people suffering from this problem again here. Frontpage extensions on Sharepoint site might be the problem. I will investigate this.

  • Give permission to "Network Service" user for the folder C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50215\Temporary ASP.NET Files. Report Services web site gave an error, complaining about the security permissions for the user Network Service.
  • Go to http://localhost/Report and do what is explained in this blog for the TFSSERVICE user.
  • Uninstall "ADAM Instance BISGSS" otherwise TFS installation complaining about this.
  • Ohh, I have forgot the service "SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER)" should also be running.
  • Change port for the Windows Media Administration Site from 8080 to 8081 (I don't know why I have installed this...) This site's port is clashing with TFSWeb site during the installation.
  • Delete databases from the previous installation:
    • BisDb
    • CurrituckDB
    • VSTEAMSCC
    • VSTEAMSCCAdmin
    • VSTEAMTeamBuild
  • Start installation again

I have couple of "32000" errors during the installation. They are:

Error 32000.The Commandline '"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Enterprise ¿

Server\BISIISDIR\sdk\bin\Bisregedit.exe" "http://VP003:8080/SCC/public/application/¿

ServiceDefinition.aspx" VP003 BisDB' returned non-zero value: 1.

Error 32000.The Commandline '"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Enterprise¿

 Server\BISIISDIR\sdk\bin\templateuploader2.exe" VP003 BisDB "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ¿

Visual Studio 2005 Enterprise Server\BISIISDIR\methodologyfiles\MsfAgile_new.zip" ¿

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Enterprise Server\BISIISDIR\methodologyfiles¿

\MsfAgile_Metadata.xml"' returned non-zero value: 1.

Error 32000.The Commandline '"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 ¿

Enterprise Server\BISIISDIR\uninstall\createds.exe" "http://VP003/ReportServer/¿

ReportService.asmx" TfsReportDS "Data source=VP003;initial catalog=BisDWDB" ¿

"VP0030\TFSSERVICE" "Whole lot of numbers/chars here" 0 1' returned non-zero value: 3.

I think, I am getting these because the requested commands are timing out. If I copy paste one of them to dos prompt and run it like:

C:\>"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Enterprise Server\BISIISDIR\¿

sdk\bin\templateuploader2.exe" VP003 BisDB "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio ¿

2005 Enterprise Server\BISIISDIR\methodologyfiles\MsfAgile_new.zip" "C:\Program Files\¿

Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Enterprise Server\BISIISDIR\methodologyfiles\MsfAgile_Metadata.xml"

It works. Thanks God that all the error dialogs have RETRY button. The installation finished successfully, now I have a running Team Foundation Server on a Windows Server 2003 VPC instance with 500mb memory (half of the suggested amount hehe). I think I am going to upgrade my system before Longhorn released which I don't want to...

Looks like people have gotten that point and got the same error message.

Here is the link to one of MS forum discussing this problem.

Problem could be in Reporting Services permissions. I will investigate this as soon as I've time...

Here is Reporting Services permission problem link

My endorfin level was about to burst when I am installing Team Foundation Server. But I have got this error message. Anyone care to comment on this?

Error says "getadminport.exe /vstf" command did return a non-zero value which is 1...!!!???

  • Install Windows Server 2003 Enterprise + SP1
  • Install Office 2003
  • Install VS2005 (Just in case I needed)
  • Uninstall SQL Express Tools (otherwise you cant see Management Studio When you install next step)
  • Install SQL Server 2005
  • Download and install "Windows Sharepoint Services with Service Pack 1" here (stsv2.exe, 38864kb)
  • Install Active Directory + DNS
  • Create users TFSSETUP and TFSSERVICE in domain and add them to Administrators group
  • Check whether MS SQL Server, Analysis Server and Report Server running.
  • Start TFS installation
  • Enter user id for the service <domain>\TFSSERVICE
Should I send my install experience to MS.

And here it is, install started finally. Half a day, 3 cans of coke, a ginger tea, 5 buritos...

I finished building a VPC base for Team Fundation Server. I will blog my experiences with it here soon.

I was looking for a book that will explain me the new ASP.NET 2.0 objects available. I was browsing through the Amazon and found Wei-Meng Lee's "ASP.NET 2.0 A Developers Notebook (tm)". The book is excellent that explains each new object with an example and fantastically easy to read. I have finished the book in one breath and head to VS2005 to try the examples. Wei-Meng Lee is the founder of www.developerlearningsolutions.com specialising in hands-on trainings. This book is also written with the same philosophy. Absolutely must have.

I was reading through Bernard Oh's blog about the Venus Williams. Did you know that Venus and İpek Şenoğlu has played a match in Turkey where the 2 continents Asia and Europe meets at 15th May 2005. The ball was bouncing between Asia and Europe. This must be a fantastic experience for a tennis player. An article about it and another one here.

Because of a busy schedule at work and at school I won't be able to attend to TechEd. I am sure there will be enough blog monsters around to write about it so I won't be missing lots. Here is the new Aussie banner for TechEd that Frank announced a while ago.

With end of this fiscal year, it is time again to lodge the Tax Return again.

Amongst many other things that I like about Australia is the things that you can do online when you are dealing with government agencies. e-Tax is one of these things that you can use to lodge your tax return, it is easy and straight forward and the return is faster than the paper lodge I believe. I recommend everyone to use this application for Tax Return lodgement.

The other books that are advised by Clive Boughton are:

This semester I will be taking 2 classes. COMP8110 Managing Software Projects in a System Context, the text book for this class is Harold Kerzner's Project Management book. The other class that I am taking is COMMP8170 Software Process Improvement Techniques. The book for this one is Practical Software Measurement from various authors. I think this semester we will be focusing on more management and process improvement. This semester will be my last one. In December, I will be graduating if I can handed my assignments in time :-)

Mitch and  Frank has done it. Here is my blogger personality.
