If your hard disk is saying "Delay write failed" this means "I am going to die in 2 months and maybe less than that". My one (Fujitsu MHR2040AT) said this and died unexpectedly. I was using it as an external backup drive. Somehow I have deleted all the original copies of my pictures from the computer and the only copy was on this hard disk. Now I have lost some of my son's  and our trip's pictures. Now I am trying to find the same hard disk thinking if I replace the circuit board, may be I can save pictures in it.

So if you have this MHR2040AT lying around gathering dust, I am ready to pay for it. Please let me know. Unfortunately, Fujitsu stopped producing this HD and the shops that I have tried are of no avail. If you have this HD and don't want to sell it or still using it please also let me know. The circuit board on this HD does not require soldering and can be replaced easily. I will do it in front of you and return yours in about 2 hours. Come on guys, somebody should have this HD.

After I have learned my lesson, I went to local computer fair and bought a Netgear SC101 backup unit with 2 Seagate 320Gb, 7200 RPM hard disks. It is a NAS storage unit that connects to network. SmartSync backup software also makes it easy to backup folders. I was actually looking for a box with Samba on it so that I can share with my Linux partition but this will do at the moment. The only thing is there is no on\off button on this device and it heats a bit.

Last couple of months were madness. First of all, I would like to whinge about my internet provider. The adage "You get what you pay for" was reiterated in this case. I went with this X company because they were the cheapest. They couldn't fix my internet connection after I moved to my new place because of some sort of line noise problem they said. I have checked my line with Optus and AAPT and they said it is all fine. My provider said the job went to Telstra to fix the lines but he was saying that Telstra was ignoring this type of customer. My provider advised me to apply for BigPond and during the first 10 days of Cool-Off period, I can transfer back to them without penalty. "Is this fair trade Telstra?", I am asking you.

Now I am trying to cancel my account with this X company and go with AAPT but since last week no one is returning my calls.

My other whinge is the ADSL2+ availability. I am living in the heart of the nation -Canberra. The exchange that I am connected to is the Civic Exchange. Possibly the oldest exchange in Canberra and ADSL2+ is not available on this exchange. There are certainly enough customers in this area and I still don't understand why ADSL2+ is not available. Come on Telstra, shame on you. I would understand this if I was living in some remote area.

By the way,  AAPT deals are quite good, if you convert your phone service to them, they give you a free modem, no installation fee, no connection or cancellation fee and no contract. I am getting 1.5Mb with 15Gb download limit. Connected today.

If you are a serious blogger, you might think of getting an ISSN number for your blog from the National Library of Australia. You can apply online and it is free.

There are realy good reasons about why you might need it here. There is also a "Compatibility of Weblogs and ISSN" document which you might need to read.

I think the biggest benefit is getting archived by the Pandora database.
